About Joel Tracy

Massachusetts-based Consultant Joel Tracy is an accomplished marketing professional with 20 years of experience in managing, generating, and implementing research plans for major corporations. Boasting a comprehensive knowledge of marketing practices, Joel Tracy’s areas of industry expertise include pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, consumer packaged goods, and services. Joel Tracy’s adept analytical skills and insights have saved companies millions of dollars in unnecessary costs and led to substantial sales.

Completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Joel Tracy studied business administration and marketing. After receiving his Bachelor of Science, Joel Tracy acquired his Master of Science in Business through the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s renowned Marketing Research Program.  He has a Professional Research Certification (PRC), Expert Level, by the Marketing Research Association (MRA).

Joel Tracy’s first foray into the marketing industry was in the capacity of a Market Analyst for The Upjohn Company, where he led marketing research and conducted joint ventures in the biotechnology sector with companies such as Chugai-Upjohn. Joel Tracy subsequently joined S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc. as Senior Marketing Researcher, pioneering programs and saving the company more than $1 million. Later returning to The Upjohn Company as Worldwide Senior Marketing Research Consultant and Group Lead, Joel Tracy led the marketing research team to develop strategy, prepare for the first global product launch, and continue with joint ventures in the biotechnology sector with companies such as Biopure.

Later, as Business Intelligence Manager for Pharmacia & Upjohn, Inc., Joel Tracy spearheaded the forecasting team, coordinated performance measurement plans, trained business group analysts, and advised upper management on marketing topics. Joel Tracy renegotiated vendor contracts and provided alternate project designs, saving upwards of $1 million in operating costs.

Joel Tracy subsequently served with Bristol-Myers Squibb as Manager of Global Marketing Research and with Searle as Manager of Marketing Research. At Bristol-Myers, Joel Tracy performed evaluations for potential global prescription and over-the-counter dermatology business operations. At Searle, Joel Tracy implemented preliminary market research in preparation for the launch of Celebrex, which eventually earned recognition as one of the most successful pharmaceutical releases in the United States, boasting $1.3 billion in sales in its first year.

Joel Tracy now owns and operates Informed Business Decisions, Inc., providing corporations such as Alkermes, Eisai, Bayer, Roche, Genentech, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Toyota Industries Corporation with his unparalleled expertise in preparing and implementing marketing plans.
